RUNNING APP NOW A TITANIC IDEA
HUNDREDS of people around the world have been racing for cold hard cash against unseen competitors, after a Gold Coast man developed a fitness app that pits runners against each other “anywhere, anytime’’.
The iPhone app — Bolt for Gold — was developed by 27-year-old Round Mountain local Alexander Bowden.
“I created a complex algorithm that uses GPS,” he said. It records the race, begins at the same time for everyone no matter where they are — Brisbane, Sydney or the other side of the world.
“The winner takes the cash. But there are also participation prizes.”
A business hosts a race, for an amount of their choice, and in return is promoted on the Bolt for Gold app and Instagram page.
Mr Bowden came up with the idea a few years ago when Pokemon Go was launched. Next Saturday, Bolt For Gold is hosting a Westpac charity event with NRL titans player Michael Gordon for $150. To race, download the app and be ready to run at 6pm.
