We all know Godolphin is a world-class operation. What is the thing about Godolphin that has surprised even you coming in?

A

I knew coming into the role it was a big operation but it’s bigger than you think. The number of people, not only in Australia but worldwide, is huge. There is just short of 2000 people working for Godolphin worldwide and 350 domestically. That was probably the biggest shock. (Godolphin boss Sheik Mohammed) believes he has got the size just right and it probably won’t be growing sharply from that. It’s about consolidating because he thinks he has enough horses and properties to suffice. We had a record 30 Group 1 winners throughout the world last year and that is what his interest is, winning those races. Our best year prior to that was 18 Group 1 winners.

Do you have any plans to open a stable on the Gold Coast?

A

I occasionally get a text from (Gold Coast chairman) Brett Cook to give it some thought. We happy to participate in Queensland but we are not looking to expand.
