FAVOURITES DOMINATE

FAVOURITE backers have had a good run over the past decade. Seven of the past nine favourites have won, including brilliant filly Sunlight (pictured) last year. Sixteen favourites have won in the 36 Classic races run since 1987 — there were two divisions of the event in the early years. Longestprice winners have been Phelan Ready ($51 in 2009), Mirror Mirror ($21 in 2006) and Sunblazer ($34 in 1989).
