KATIE AND GERRY SHOW
ALL THAT GLITTERS
THEY were welcomed to the stage as the “ultimate trifecta”.
That was MC Hamish McLachlan’s apt introduction for Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch and co-owners Katie Page and
Gerry Harvey in front of 450 VIPs at the launch party on the Surfers Paradise beachfront this week. “Katie has energy like no other woman in the world – and
Gerry just hangs on,” McLachlan deadpanned. From there, it turned into the Katie and Gerry Show as the pair engaged in a double act that had those assembled in stitches. Everyone knows Page, the powerhouse CEO of their Harvey Norman department store giant, has been instrumental in turning the Magic Millions horse sale into a 12day carnival that is now capturing not just Australia-wide but international attention.
That didn’t stop Harvey announcing: “It’s nice to have Katie here in charge because I’ve been in charge for a long time and I’m officially tonight telling you she’s taking over and I’ll just be in the background.”
Page, who may or may not have been rolling her eyes, noted: “Gerry said the same thing last year ... welcome everyone.”
Page paid tribute to visiting royal
Zara Tindall, who helped launch their Magic Millions Racing Women initiative and is attending with hubby Mike Tindall.
“Zara and I have two little helpers, Mike and Gerry, and they are often wandering two steps behind us because that is how it is done.”
Katie has energy like no other – Gerry just hangs on
