Coaching cavalry arrives to boost the Demons

- TOM BOSWELL

SURFERS Paradise have been one of the best developing sides in the QAFL in recent years and now their focus has turned to delivering the offfield recruits who can guide the team to more success.

The Demons have bolstered their coaching department across the senior, reserves and colts levels as QAFL coach Brad Moore goes into 2019 with unprecedented backing.

Former senior assistant Beau Zorko has left to become coach of Broadbeach’s QAFL side while colts coach Shannon Tate has also exited the club.

But coming in to replace them are former Southport NEAFL player Dale Eames (senior assistant), Jason Chantler (reserves), Greg Mitchell (assistant), Hamish Mitchell (colts coach) and Rohan Toll (coaching adviser).

They will join existing footy department staff Moore and assistants Gavin Faulkner, Waata Wells, Nick Scott and Mark Kruger.

“It was a good team in the first place and we needed to get a few guys on board to replace a few,” Moore said. “They have found their feet quickly. I’m hoping the new guys bring some of their own fresh ideas and thoughts from what they have experienced in coaching.

“It’s a diverse group. Greg and Jason are Surfers boys and Eames has coached and played at Southport.

“We wanted guys who would fit around what we are all about and how we go about the game.

“It keeps the players on their toes too with new coaches to impress.

“Sometimes in community footy it’s hard to keep everyone on a year-to-year basis but we are fortunate enough to have good people come in and hopefully they can make a smooth transition.”
