GRASSROOT FOCUS KEY

-

Q

Can we expect to see you out at some local footy games during the year?

A

From time to time, yeah. It’s important that we build a connection with the rugby league community here. For the first time we have got development programs happening; we want to expand those, we want to build really strong relationships with Burleigh and Tweed. We want all rugby league fans to become Titans fans so it is a bit of a process.

There has been a lot of ups and downs but we’re a new club now in the sense that we have got new owners and we have got a really strong community focus around how the club is perceived. We have a strong focus around being a development club and making sure we retain our juniors and give them every opportunity to play for the Titans.

Q

What did you make of the inaugural NRLW and can you see a future for the Titans there?

A

I like it. I like the fact that there is equality there. I’ve seen it firsthand, I’ve seen the Jillaroos, how passionate they are when they put the green and gold jersey on. Mums and daughters are so important to the rugby league future. Mums make decisions. Mums allow little Johnny or little Julie to go and play our sport, so it’s important.

I think it’s an important vision for the club to have. It’s not for the immediate future but with Tweed getting a women’s team this year as well and with our development programs we want to ensure that young girls get an opportunity to play our sport.
