HOSPO DUO SPLITS UP

They have a growing hospitality group with bars and a burgeoning burger joint franchise but their business relationship is now over

-

ONE half of the duo behind a new Surfers Paradise laneway bar has admitted their business partnership has disintegrated ahead of the venue opening its doors.

Experienced hospitality operator Tim Glasson confirms he is no longer taking part in operating Taboo Tiki off party strip Orchid Avenue.

The venue had its soft opening last weekend and remaining business partner Gavin McDougal told ATG last week it was scheduled to be in full swing from this weekend.

However, Glasson will no longer be actively involved despite putting in a lot of shared effort in the lead-up.

Glasson has this week told ATG he is in the process of separating from the Glasson McDougal Restaurant Group and would be unable to elaborate why. “I want to run that by my lawyer first. That would probably give you a hint as to how that relationship is going,” he said.

A source tells ATG the pair have “fallen out” but it is not clear why.

Glasson’s departure also means he will longer be involved in their other operations, Aloha bar in Broadbeach and the Smashed Burgers franchise which has a shop in Broadbeach and a new spot in Surfers near Taboo Tiki.

Glasson tells ATG: “I created most drinks and food on the menu at Aloha but unfortunately at the end of the day you can’t be too sentimental about these things.”

Glasson adds he has moved away from frontline hospitality and has a job working for a spirits company.

“I want to thank the customers and the staff I have had because I had a great time over the years and a lot of my regular customers have become good friends of mine,” Glasson said. “It was just time to make a change.”

McDougal, an American who made his pile after selling an IT company in Sydney, was unable to be contacted for comment.
