A ‘GETAWAY driver’ for a notorious Gold Coast hoon group has escaped conviction after dobbing in his mates to police.

Adam Francis Forbes, a member of the Mexican Hoon Cartel, admitted driving gang members the night they damaged a woman’s car on July 31 after she had complained about the group.

Six gang members hit the car with “items and implements” and spray painted it with colours of the Mexican flag, the Southport Magistrates Court was told.

Two months earlier, on May 21, Forbes acted as a “look out” while burnouts were done in the driveway of a Gilston home, the court was told.

The 18-year-old cabinet maker pleaded guilty to two counts of wilful damage and one count of driving a car with a defaced number plate.

Defence barrister Nick McGhee said Forbes turned himself in to police and revealed the identities of other Mexican Hoon Cartel members after the gang gained “media attention”.

The group posts videos on social media under the name Mexican Hoon Cartel featuring members performing dangerous stunts on roads while wearing balaclavas.

Their Facebook page has more than 23,000 followers.

Multiple alleged members were charged in August last year. Forbes was the first to be sentenced.

Magistrate Mark Howden said he would reduce Forbes’ sentence because of his assistance to police.

Forbes was placed on a good behaviour bond of $2000 for an 18-month period. No conviction was recorded.

The court was told Forbes had two charges of unlawful stalking before the courts. Both have been committed to the Southport District Court.
