Just wait til we get on a roll: Walmsley
DESPITE losing both of their round one QBL clashes against the Mackay Meteorettes and the Southern District Spartans, Gold Coast Rollers WNBL recruit Susannah Walmsley believes the best is set to come.
The 29-year-old, who comes to the Gold Coast after playing 44 matches for the Sydney Uni Flames over the past two seasons, believes her side are already showing signs of improvement.
“I think we really gelled together in the second game,” she said.
“We didn’t really train that much together as a complete squad before the season so with each game and each training we’re getting better.
“From the first games, we probably needed to work on our transition defence and gelling on offence but the more we train and play together, the more familiar we’ll be with each other.”
After her SEABL basketball team wasn’t granted a license in the revised NBL1 competition, Walmsley decided it was time for a new

challenge and it wasn’t long before she decided on the Rollers.
“I was in contact with a few clubs,” she said. “It felt right to come to the Rollers.
“I hadn’t been to the Gold Coast since I was 12 but I had a really good feeling about the move and the beachy lifestyle is really conducive to my interests.
“They have such a young, exciting group so I’m excited to build with them and hopefully go better than last year but we’re already showing positive signs.”
After playing in the national league for the past two WNBL seasons, Walmsley said she hoped to bring a level head to a young Rollers side.
“I want to bring leadership on court and alleviate any pressure that might build during a game,” she said.
“Having been in those situations before, I want to focus on helping the girls bring energy and intensity.
“We had some really good patches of basketball during our first two games but we need to do it for the full 40 minutes.
“We haven’t had very strong seasons in the past few years so our goal is to improve and win more games than we lose and hopefully make finals.”
The Rollers will face off against the Brisbane Capitals tonight at Auchenflower.
