SHARKS CIRCLING LEAGUE TITLES
GOLD Coast hockey talent will swap their club colours for aqua and black when the Poligras Super League kicks off today in Brisbane.
Queensland’s top 100 players will converge on the State Hockey Centre across the weekend as regions go head to head to be named the state’s superior side.
Representing the Gold Coast and Tweed region is the South Coast Sharks, who will do battle with five other regional teams.
Having guided Labrador to second spot on the Brisbane Hockey League ladder five rounds into the season, Joe Reardon has been been announced captain of the Sharks’ men and the team has recruited two Kookaburras to help them achieve success.
“It’s always a good opportunity to test yourself against the best players in the state,” Reardon said.
“We have a really good young squad with guys like Blake Wotherspoon, who’s just been elevated into the national development side, and some guys who are in the mix to be selected in the Queensland under-21 side.
“We’ve also got Jason Wilson as an exKookaburra who will bring a lot of leadership and experience.”
Despite Brisbane taking out the past three super league tournaments, Reardon believes the Sharks have the talent to knock the Fury off their perch.
The Sharks’ women will be looking to retain their title after winning the competition in 2018.
The women will play their first match against the South West Lumberjacks at 1pm today, before the men’s game at 2.30pm.
