Cats finally start to purr
Coach Zorko happy with slow build to September
BROADBEACH coach Beau Zorko says the Cats are starting to become the cohesive unit they will need to be if they are any chance of winning the QAFL premiership.
The Cats could secure an eight-point buffer in third should they beat Morningside at Jack Esplen Oval today and other results go their way.
“We are well aware of (the opportunity),” Zorko said.
“We started to show some signs of hitting our straps last week and as much as it still wasn’t the performance we are after across the four quarters, we certainly took some confidence from the win (over Labrador).
“We still have lapses at times where we lose concentration and our skill execution wasn’t where it needed to be.
“Our focus really needs to be on consistency of performance now.
“We are starting to get some stability with our team, starting to get some connection from our mids to our forwards, defenders to our mids.
“We are starting to bond together and become what we are going to need to be if we are a realistic chance come September.
“There is a lot on the line, 4-2 gives us an eight-point buffer but 3-3 puts us back in the scrap.”
Nick Burton, Ben Hancock and Southport listed players Ethan Reeves and Kai Sheers will come into the team, replacing Joel Newman and Jackson Fisher, who are being managed, as well as Harrison Arnold and Ryan Pantic.
Arnold has a university placement in Rockhampton while Pantic has been dropped.
Reeves injured his ankle in a practice game for Southport in March and made his return through Broadbeach’s reserves last week.
Meanwhile, Palm Beach Currumbin will host the Western Magpies at Salk Oval today, while Labrador will play Wilston Grange at Hickey Park. Surfers Paradise will play Sandgate in Brisbane.
