Track fears for triple bid

- TOM BOSWELL

LUKE Dittman is staring down the barrel of a potential treble for trainer Gillian Heinrich at a Gold Coast track the jockey says is starting to feel the affects of an enormous workload.

Dittman will be on board all three of Heinrich’s favourites today, including Comic Story, Phoenix Shadow and Captivated.

Dittman was confident all three were in good enough form to win but believed the uncertainty surrounding the condition of the track, that has hosted eight race meetings or trials in the past month, could play the biggest part.

“They are all flying,” Dittman said.

“Comic Story is probably my best chance if he runs up to what he did the other week (at the Gold Coast).

“The track is the worry for Captivated and Phoenix Shadow. I just don’t know how messed up it will be after all that racing.

“If they get half an ounce of luck and they travel then they can all win.

“The track has copped so much racing in the last few weeks or so it’s actually done well to hold up as much as it has. It has had a stack of fill in it and obviously the rain last week hasn’t helped anything. It doesn’t give it time for the grass to grow back.

“It might end up racing like it’s a heavy 10 or it might race like a good track.”

Dittman said it will change the lines the hoops try to find to the line.

“I won’t go near the fence but they have been coming six or eight deep and on Wednesday they were 10 to 15 deep.”
