WHEN Earl Jones arrived at Runaway Bay indoor stadium last Friday night for his first QBL game with the Seahawks, it was the first time he’d met his now teammates.

The American import player had only arrived that morning after an overbooked flight saw his original travel plans thrown out the window as he was forced to travel via Canada to make it in time for the Seahawks’ fourth game of the season.

“I’ve never experienced anything like that before,” Jones said of meeting his teammates in the change rooms before running out onto the court.

“But it was actually a good experience and I embraced it and they welcomed me with open arms. I had a bit of trouble leaving the United States and had to go through Canada so I only got to the Gold Coast at 10am last Friday and we had a game that night so I was a bit jet lagged.” Seahawks men: 2W, 4L Seahawks women: 4W 2L GC Rollers men: 3W, 1L GC Rollers women: 1W, 3L

The 28-year-old admitted that he didn’t have the impact he wanted to have in his first two games at the club but he refused to place blame on the travel dilemma.

“I think it did have an impact but no excuses I should have played better,” he said.

“I want to bring a lot of leadership and tenacity to the team.”

After spending the week training with the team, the point guard believes the Seahawks have what it takes to compete at the back end of the season.

“I think we stack up well with just about anyone,” he said. “I don’t want to leave.”

The Seahawks’ men last night fell 99-85 away to Logan Thunder, while the women slipped to an 82-62 loss.
