Seagulls’ three wins crucial, says Woolf

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

at least three of five games in a short middle part of the Intrust Super Cup season is pivotal to Tweed’s campaign, according to coach Ben Woolf.

The Seagulls have been victorious in their past three starts – all against fellow top-eight teams – to be well placed in sixth with a 7-3 record.

Woolf’s side returned well from the pre-Round 10 competition bye last weekend, trumping Easts 16-4 away, and have games against Northern Pride (11th), Souths Logan (12th), Sunshine Coast (1st) and Papua New Guinea (13th) to come before another weekend off in June.

“We have put ourselves in a good position to play finals footy,” Woolf said.

“If we can keep that consistency through this middle part of the year and probably win more games than you lose, that’s probably the key.

“That takes a bit of pressure off going into the end and we can just focus on getting our processes right as opposed to being in a position where you are hanging on scores every week.”

Although a four-point margin has opened up between teams inside and outside the eight, Woolf believes out-ofform Redcliffe and Souths pose particular threats in the months to come.

“They are going to win some games – their rosters are too good not to,” he said.

Tweed will be without Luke Jurd (hamstring) for today’s afternoon match at Vico Oval in Cairns, with Lindon McGrady and Talor Walters shuffling back to five-eighth and fullback respectively.

The Pride have lost eight straight.
