His dad is a social media star for his controversial posts and his son’s proving a chip off the block
THE son of Gold Coast tobacconist tycoon Travers ”Candyman”
Beynon is following his father’s work-hard, play-hard mantra but Instagram is not playing along. Aspiring DJ Valentino Beynon, who has started doing regular gigs at Glitter Strip nightclubs Sin City and
Platinum, is getting increasingly frustrated at the social media giant frequently shutting down his account. The ambitious 22-yearold tells ATG the shutdowns are hurting his profile as a DJ and Instagram are virtually impossible to get hold of when it happens and reasons for the blocks are unclear.
His account, which has 13,400 followers, was removed last month for five days, and twice this month, including a three-week stretch from May 7 to May 29. “It’s vital in growing my career,” he says. “If I don’t bring a crowd to a gig then I’m unlikely to be booked again. I have had no correspondence from Instagram, they haven’t replied to emails. I have sent verification documents daily.
“I have some big gigs lined up over the coming months and lots of new music to release, I’m hoping this doesn’t continue to be a problem.”

Belinda Gavin says she understands Valentino’s frustration. “He’s a great kid, works hard. Actually, Travers is a little harder on him than he needs to be at times. I’m like ‘C’mon Dad’.”
