I FEEL WEIRD ABOUT IT

Gold Coast breakfast radio star Heather Maltman has signed off after two years – and reveals it has left her with some odd feelings

-

SEA FM’s departed breakfast show co-host Heather Maltman says she’s feeling “weird ... weird man” after finishing up with the morning show.

Never short of a quirky line, the 33-year-old – who plans to spend more time in Sydney and working on her One Together podcast – tells ATG how finishing yesterday morning felt.

“Like when you dream you’re naked and using a toilet in public – that kind of feeling,” she says before adding: “A lone wolf that’s been separated from its pack.

“I’ve done radio for so long it feels really weird to walk away.

“When I said on air it had been a long decision, I genuinely meant that.

“I’ve been creating the podcast since October last year but only just released it at the start of this month.

“The idea is something I had for years but was too scared to do because I was like ‘Well, no one cares what you think Maltman’ and that’s probably still the case but at the end of the day this podcast isn’t about me, it’s about the people I’m interviewing.

“Most of the time I shut up and let people speak and share their story.”

Maltman plans to continue zigzagging across Australia to do interviews for her podcast.

First up she will be speaking with a Gold Coast indigenous woman at the tail end of Reconciliation Week.

She also has interviews planned with TV presenter Jessica Rowe, recognised for her mental health advocacy, and Alex Fevola, a mother of four and wife of former AFL star Brendan Fevola.

Australian Paralympic swimmer and medallist Monique Murphy – who survived a horror 20-metre fall from a fifth-floor balcony – is another on Maltman’s One Together line up.

SEA FM said goodbye on Instagram with a photo, saying “Thanks for all the laughs Heather, we’ll miss you around here.”
