Pride on the line for Tweed in 2020

- BRENT O’NEILL

TWEED’S bid to build on this year’s drought-breaking Intrust Super Cup finals appearance will begin with a home clash against the Northern Pride on March 15.

With the QRL yesterday releasing the draw for next season, Tweed will enjoy the home comforts at Piggabeen Sports Complex in their 3pm showdown with the Pride, who won five games this year to finish 12th.

With 14 wins and nine losses, the

Seagulls reached the ISC playoffs this year for the first time since 2014 before being knocked out by Redcliffe.

Ben Woolf’s side will have to wait until Round 7 on April 25 for their grudge match against local rivals Burleigh, with the Seagulls to travel to Pizzey Park before hosting the return bout in Round 16 on July 27.

QRL competitions manager Dave Maiden said the draw release would light the spark for all teams in their quest to qualify for the grand final at Redcliffe on Sunday, September 27.

“This year’s grand final at Redcliffe was an overwhelming success with all competing teams sharing positive feedback on both the facilities and game-day experience,” Maiden said.

“The path to this showpiece game starts for all teams in mid-March next year with some mouth-watering Round 1 match ups. Once again, there’s plenty to get excited about for all teams and fans across 23 action-packed rounds, plus a fourweek finals series.”

Maiden confirmed the top eight format would return next year, along with a host of popular feature rounds, including Country Week (date TBC), Indigenous Round (Round 17) and Women in League Round (Round 21).

As revealed by the Bulletin on Thursday, defending premiers Burleigh will host Wynnum Manly in a grand final rematch in Round 1 next season.
