W-League the next goal for Colts’ gun
SHE is set to lead her Colts out for their first game of the Brisbane Women’s Premier League season this afternoon, but Coomera captain Brittney Lacek is already eyeing off what life might be like at the next level.
The 26-year-old arrived on the Gold Coast just over a year ago after spending some time training with Lewes FC in Brighton, England. Before that the American helped steer her high school football side to their first female state championship in the school’s history before going on to play semi-professionally with the Texas Spurs.
Having run into visa trouble in England, Lacek decided to spruik her talents via an online football agency, which is when Coomera got in touch and offered a deal.
Now Lacek is eyeing off a berth at Australia’s highest level.
“I want to keep going as long as possible and maybe train with the W-League at one point,” she said of her future football aspirations.
“As long as I stay focused and keep my mentality right the sky is the limit,” she said.
The 2019 BWPL Team of the Year midfielder said she immediately felt at home in Australia, her first visit to the sunburnt country being when she landed to commence her stint with the Colts.
“Everyone at the club was super welcoming and friendly and took me in and gave me a place to stay,” she said.
Coomera were forced to sit out Round 1 of the 2020 BWPL league with the bye.
Now with one more week of training under their belt and a burning desire to join their colleagues on the pitch, Lacek confirmed Coomera would be the team to watch in 2020.
“I was a bit antsy and jealous of others,” she said.
“With the week off, you really want to go out there guns blazing and show everyone that we’re not here to mess around.
“We’re going to be a good squad and we’ve got a lot of talent across the board so everyone is super excited to get started.”
Coomera take on Robina City at Robina tonight (5pm). Broadbeach have the bye.
“Being from the Gold Coast as well, it’s a big first game and it gives us the chance to set the tone,” Lacek said. “It doesn’t matter who we play, we want to come out guns blazing in all of our games.”
