Cop shop a quick build

-

A NEW police station fasttracked for the Gold Coast’s northern suburbs will open before the end of next year.

The $6 million Pimpama police facility, originally set for completion in 2022, is now scheduled for November 2021.

Police Minister Mark Ryan made the announcement at the Cox Road site on Friday morning.

He said the decision was part of making sure police had “appropriate resources” in the Glitter Strip’s fastest-growing areas.

“It means we can have police on the ground here sooner,” he said.

“Over the next few years there’s a couple hundred extra police still to come online.

“The commissioner makes decisions as to where those police will be deployed, but ultimately the growth will be used to support staff at those facilities.

“These officers will be used to staff these new facilities.”

Construction will begin in coming months.
