Cats play waiting game on Ablett

-

GARY Ablett is training strongly three times a week in Geelong but is yet to set a date to join the Cats when they move to the Gold Coast.

The champion returned home to be with his family as his young son Levi fights a rare degenerative condition and his wife Jordan cares for her ill mother.

Ablett, 36, was adamant his season – and career – wasn’t over when he left Perth after Geelong’s loss to Collingwood.

Given he is set to face a 14day quarantine upon arriving in Queensland, the veteran will not play until at least Round 13.

Geelong general manager of football Simon Lloyd said the club would work out a plan with the 352-game forward when he was ready.

“I think at the moment, the priority for Gary and Jordan is for us to continue to give them the privacy they need to work through their situation and family is first and foremost,” Lloyd said. “Gary is training rigorously, three times a week and then he is doing all the other stuff in between.”

Geelong will fly from Perth to Queensland on Monday morning, where the club will set itself up in the Southport Mantra on the Gold Coast.
