Churchie no pushover as TSS aims to keep up form

- ELIZA REILLY

LOGIC says The Southport School should defeat reigning GPS football premier Anglican Church Grammar School.

But football isn’t always logical. After sitting out Round 1 with a bye, TSS announced its 2020 GPS arrival with a 4-0 victory over Nudgee which in turn defeated Anglican Church Grammar School in Round 1.

But despite history suggesting TSS has its measure, including a 2-1 victory last year, TSS director of football Joe Dolan is refusing to take

“Churchie” lightly. “Full credit to Churchie for taking out the title last year,” Dolan said.

“It’s a really simple approach for us, every game is like a final and we can’t afford to slack off.”

Dolan indicated TSS would attempt to curb the influence of talented Churchie attacker Cyrus Dehmie on its quest for victory.

Dolan also believes TSS is showing early signs of building strong momentum and in a short season “the mentality is simply one down, seven schools yet to beat”.
