SUNS COACH ENTERS THE AMAZON
WE HAVE A LOT OF TRUST IN THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE HEARING AND SEEING THINGS NO ONE ELSE WOULD.”
STUART DEW
STUART Dew spent his entire career as a player being filmed and is well versed at doing the same in press conferences as a coach.
But the camera has never been more focused on the Suns’ AFL coach who is the star of a documentary Amazon is filming about the club.
Amazon needed to capture the Suns through someone’s eyes and Dew was the man for the job.
“It’s definitely different,” Dew said.
“At different times you are really aware they are there and other times you are not. You are mic’d up a lot of the time because they are there to capture the inner dealings of a footy club.
“As a club we thought it was really important because externally there are a lot of mistruths about our footy club.
“At the moment, what they are capturing is how close this group is, how committed they are, how driven they are to improve and that is the offfield part as well.
“Quite often you see two hours on a Saturday but they are ultimately capturing stuff during the week and they can see the work being done.
“I’m the one mic'd up but at different times other people have the camera on them as well.
“It’s a great opportunity for the footy club to show what we have got. Clearly everyone is going to see our facilities and up until the end of last year some people still thought we didn’t have great facilities or access to ovals.
”We have the opportunity to right the misconceptions or mistruths about our footy club. We also think we want to be writing our own history.
“Some days they will film most of the day, depending on what we have on.
“Rather than having them be outsiders, we want them in and comfortable with everyone. We have a lot of trust in them because they are hearing and seeing things no one else would.”
