Mebrahtu aiming to figure on Roar goalscoring sheet

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

GOLGOL Mebrahtu is desperate to open his account for a Brisbane Roar side lacking goals.

The Roar have scored just once in their past four matches, with that goal coming from right back Jack Hingert in Brisbane’s last-start 3-1 loss to the Glory in Perth.

On Saturday, the Roar return to Dolphin Stadium to host champions Sydney FC.

The teams met only a fortnight ago in Sydney, where former Gold Coast United prodigy Mebrahtu – back in the ALeague after a five-year absence – made his Roar debut in a 0-0 draw at Jubilee Stadium.

Having played in Perth less than a week later, the 30-yearold attacking weapon is finally set for a home game for the Roar, and wants to mark the occasion with a goal, and a Brisbane win.

“To be able to play in front of my family and friends, be at home back in the A-League, it’s been good and I’m looking forward to (the) game, Mebrahtu said.

“I’m enjoying every moment of my time here, training and playing with them.

“Those partnerships will start to develop the more time we spend on the pitch with each other and I think we saw a bit of that in the last game, hopefully we can see more in the future.”

Mebrahtu, who hit the crossbar with a header against the Glory, was confident the Roar’s fortunes in front of goal would soon change.

“We hit the post a few times (in Perth). If those goes in then it changes the game completely,” he said.

“Right now for me, it’s about getting on the pitch and helping the team win by scoring goals.’’

The Sydneysiders have lost two matches in succession since their draw with Brisbane.

Sydney coach Steve Corica isn’t panicking but expects more from his star-studded outfit.

“It’s about taking your chances when they come,” Corica said.

Sydney’s side will be boosted by the return of former Roar midfielder Luke Brattan from concussion but Paulo Retre is suspended after being sent off in their loss to Macarthur FC.
