BE INSPIRED Q&A

Julia Crosswell, 23, account coordinator, Aruga

-

WHAT’S YOUR ROLE?

I started at Aruga in August, 2020, as part of their internship program and have been working in my full-time role for four months now. I generally spend my days engaging in media relations, creating content and managing social media accounts.

ANY QUALIFICATIONS?

I will graduate with a Bachelor of Communications majoring in Digital Media, and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science and Writing, in July.

WERE YOU ANXIOUS BEFORE YOUR INTERVIEW?

Definitely. As I had been interning with Aruga for a few months before my interview, I knew that I was passionate about the position and wanted to ace the interview. I was also incredibly aware of the competitive job market and was anxious about finding work after graduating university.

HOW DID YOU CALM YOUR NERVES?

I had to be confident in my experience and my abilities. I knew that I was the right person for the job, so I just needed to convince my potential employer – and remind myself – of the same thing. I tried to prepare as much as possible by drafting some potential answers for questions I might be asked throughout the interview. I also talked to my mum about it a lot. She’s a very calming influence.

WHAT’S YOUR BEST ADVICE?

Come prepared with questions for them about what your role will entail and ask about company culture. Give yourself the opportunity to pre-empt and address any concerns that the interviewer might have about you.
