THINGS ALL WHITE IN SYDNEY

-

IS there such a thing as a bikini-led recovery?

That just may be the case for White Sands Swimwear creator and designer Leah Madden who has just received the very best news: “This week I was honoured to receive an invitation to showcase our SS21 Swim Collection at the Afterpay Australian Fashion Week in Sydney early next month.

“I am a born-and-bred Gold Coaster and while last year wasn’t the best, I was lucky to be able to ride it out. I spent six months homeschooling the children and reconnecting.

“The pause in routine gave me space to get back to basics and inspired a collection that was a tribute to Australia – raw, beautiful and diverse.”

A trip to Brazil inspired Leah’s designing journey. “I noticed that the women had a much more glamorous take on going to the beach. High heels, matching hats, wraps – it made me think ‘why couldn’t we do that’ and White Sands was born.

“I was very fortunate because in my first year Vogue covered the collection and David Jones stocked it which encouraged me to continue. It is what I love to do and I can’t wait to get to Sydney and put on a show.” status, the pre-planning has turned into a Game of Moans as those close to him jockey for position.

Who sits where and on which table, what is on the menu, which entertainers should be booked – the list of contentious issues is growing by the day.

Hopefully the stress of separating the feuding friends doesn’t dampen what he hoped would be a great party.

SAMPSON KEEPS METER RUNNING

IT is something of a coup for our Gold Coast Meter Maids with renowned documentary maker Todd Sampson (pictured below with Kelly Maybury and Kyara Iglesias) in town to film them for an upcoming project.

“The doco deals with body image, how it’s formed and what role it plays in shaping our lives,” said Meter Maid boss Roberta Atchison.

“He and the crew were only supposed to do a short stint with us but they were so intrigued by the way the tourists were intermingling with the girls, and wanting photos, that they keep shooting and getting the reactions.

“When the producer originally rang me to explain what they wanted she said that the Meter Maids are iconic to the Gold Coast and were a perfect fit for the documentary.”
