46 YEARS OF HAPPY DAYS FOR A-LIST HEAVYWEIGHT

- CHARLI SAVED BY A WHISKER WITH PETER & REGINA

GIVE Liam Talbot, the partner of Charli Robinson (both below), a cast-iron helmet with a slit and he could have done a fair impersonation of Ned Kelly.

It’s his beloved beard that carries the role and if you know Liam you will know that he is deeply attached, literally and figuratively, to his freeflowing facial hair.

At the Aussie Kidz annual fundraiser, of which Charli is an ambassador and Liam is a director, the idea was floated that if the right sum was donated, Liam would lose the beard.

Next thing you know an amazing $31,000 was raised.

Then Thor’s hammer, signed by Chris Hemsworth, went up for auction and Liam and his good mate Ben Hennock went halves in the purchase.

Hemsworth sent a text congratulating the pair and in total more than $200,000 was raised.

Best of all for Charli, she finally got to see Liam shaved down for the first time. “I have a brand new fiance,” she laughed.

A CITY RALLIES FOR JED

THE power of the Gold Coast community writ large in this tale.

Film industry professional Jed Cahill (below) has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer. To help extend his life and hopefully embark on a healing journey, Jed, his wife Jacinta and children have sold everything and travelled to Germany to undertake specialised treatment. The cost will be astronomical and the treatment will take around six months so to help Jed a special fundraising night, Shorts For Jed, was held at HOTA with friends and film industry folk gathering en masse to help.

A staggering $115,000 was raised and then to top off the night a Byron Bay donor, who has followed Jed’s story, contacted the organisers to match the sum. If you can help, go to Jed’s GoFundMe page.

THE WOMEN BEHIND THE WOMEN

THE St Hilda’s Foundation Business lunch this week was a showcase for some of our inspirational women to talk about their journey so far.

Two of our favourite femmes are Channel 9’s Eva Milic and ironwoman Courtney Hancock (above right).

We asked them who their inspiration was when they were up.

Eva: “I come from a Croatian background so my family always watched SBS News (followed by Na- tional Nine News). The newsreader back then was Mary Kostakidis and given her European background and exotic name I always looked up to her. I’ve never met her but she is one of the reasons I went into journalism.”

Courtney: “I always loved watching Karla Gilbert when she raced so when I moved up here I got to meet her which was a real thrill when I was young. Over the years she has growing

HEARTBROKEN FAMILY’S INSPIRING PUSH FOR CHANGE

NO parent should ever have to endure the heartbreak that Lloyd and Sue Clarke (right) suffered when their daughter Hannah and her three children – Aaliyah, Laianah and Trey – were taken so brutally in February 2020.

To honour their memory, Small Steps 4 Hannah was established as a means of raising money to distribute to other domestic violence foundations. “We want to

HOLLYWOOD relationships usually have the shelf life of fresh fruit so big congratulations to director Ron Howard and his wife Cheryl who celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary this week.

The former mainstay of Happy Days is these days one of the top directors in the world and is in town shooting the real-life drama Thirteen Lives based on the rescue of the Thai soccer team trapped in a cave in 2018.

He and Cheryl met in high school, were married in 1975 and have four children. And how did they spend the day? A walk on the beach where their new BFF EmilyJade O’Keeffe and daughter Millie spotted them and managed to get a selfie.

“Really beautiful people,” was EJ’s summation of her encounter with the famous couple.

Perhaps we could sign Ron and Cheryl up to be Ambassadors at Large for the Gold Coast. We could even throw in diplomatic immunity – not that they would need it.

become one of my very best friends and is a wonderful person to talk to about everything in my life.”

assist via education and helping victims to recover and get their lives back on track,” said Lloyd. “If you think someone is suffering DV, look for that constant, repetitive, controlling behaviour that seeks to distance the person from family and friends. “The loss of Hannah and her children was a linein-the-sand moment for Australia and we have been so humbled how the entire community is rallying to put an end to DV. Let’s all work towards gender equality and better behaviour in all relationships.”

Enough is enough.

BUBLE, THE SALT OF THE EARTH

THERE are concerts that stay in the memory for years and this was one of them.

The occasion was the official opening of Salt Village just south of Kingscliff in September 2006 and a Michael Bublé concert was the big-ticket event for the celebration. Megan and Tom Ray are pictured with the Canadian crooner before the show (above). What made it memorable was the Village Green being turned into a mini Central Park and on a balmy spring evening with Michael and the band serenading us, it was a true feast for the senses. Things got a bit willing when some idiot in the crowd decided it would be funny to shine a laser at Michael. The feisty singer had to be restrained from going after the perpetrator.

There was a tinge of sadness because a little over a year earlier Brian and Kathy Ray, Tom’s parents, had died in a plane crash near Mt Hotham. Sadly, Brian never got to see his dream of creating a new lifestyle destination on the NSW north coast come to fruition.

Who: Allison Pickering.

Where: Gold Coast Fundraising Ball at RACV Royal Pines Resort.

What she wore: Old-school Hollywood glamour for Allison. She wore a Carla Zampatti gown with Jimmy Choo shoes and Louis Vuitton handbag and necklace plus Mx Skincare for that fresh faced look. Style icons: “Rosie HuntingtonWhiteley is my idea of glamour – chic, polished, stylish and always elegant. She wears everything well. I have a similar love for Cate Blanchett who combines a unique, elegant style with sharp tailoring. My favourite designers are Balmain, who have impeccable tailoring and great fabrics with a rockchic edge. Tom Ford is simply all class – beautifully fitted with a style that is timeless. My usual look is jeans, heels, tailored jacket with a ‘rock chick’ edge. For big gala events I prefer fitted with block colours and always statement pieces – handbag, shoes and jewellery.”
