Teenager on bail days after older brother dies

A TEENAGER who police allege assaulted his brother and caused his death has been allowed out on bail while he awaits serious charges.

Cooper McMillan appeared in Tweed Heads Local Court on Friday.

He faces charges of assault causing death and reckless grievous bodily harm after an alleged attack on his 20-yearold brother, Charlie Adrian McMillan. He has not entered any pleas.

Police attended a unit on Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads, on June 12 at 8.59pm after reports of an alleged assault.

Police allege Charlie McMillan was treated at the scene by paramedics before he was taken to Tweed Heads Hospital in a critical condition.

Charlie died on Tuesday, police allege as a result of his injuries.

Cooper McMillan’s bail was varied on Friday with the conditions he is to report daily to police, is to reside at either a Banora Point or Tweed Heads West address, to not consume alcohol or illicit drugs and to be of good behaviour.

The case was adjourned to September 17 for further mention, with a brief of evidence expected to be served by August 16.
