CUP WIN WOULD BE ONE OF NOSTALGIA

- TRENTON AKERS

PETER Tighe’s renowned blue and white colours have won more than most could dream of thanks to the great Winx but he admits it would be a trip down memory lane if they could salute in the Ipswich Cup on Saturday.

The great mare famously won 25 Group 1s during a glittering career and Tighe now has “six to eight” horses that sport the same colours, including So You Win who is a $3.90 favourite in Saturday’s feature.

While it isn’t the heights of a Cox Plate or Queen Elizabeth Stakes,

Tighe said an Ipswich Cup win would be nostalgic.

“We have won a Weetwood in Toowoomba (Sexy Eyes, 2019) but not an Ipswich Cup – those colours have won plenty elsewhere,” he said.

“We would be very proud for those colours to win an Ipswich Cup because

I have a lot of fond memories around there.

“I used to go there with my old man when I was a boy when it was called Bundamba so I love the place, I had a lot of fun there. It has got a good country atmosphere to it there, they all like a good time.”
