SELFISH GREENIE BRIGADE

An overwhelming majority of people care about our greenery and environment. Then there is the mob who claims it does ... but for its own selfish agendas

PLEASE don’t choke on your corn flakes but I am officially a greenie. Yes, that’s right, I’m a huge fan of the hinterland, the green behind the gold. I mean, for goodness sake, my favorite game is golf and guess where we do our putting – yes, the green.

It just comes naturally. The Gold Coast City Council has unquestionably got the mix right between development and open space. In fact, as you drive around this beautiful city, open space and parklands abound. It’s been a juggling act over the past 50 years but the council can be justifiably proud.

But there’s a threat to our way of life and it’s the people I shall refer to as the “bad” greenies. You see them around the traps, screaming banshees waving placards as they try to save the whale, the planet, the frog, the bare-assed bat … you name it.

They suffer from the complaint known to man as self-righteousness. They believe their beliefs and morals are better than everybody else’s.

In the case of the Gold Coast greenie, they believe they are intellectually and morally superior to you and me.

It’s their self-righteousness which also makes them impossible to be reasonable with or to negotiate. They believe that only they know the path forward and nobody else’s perspectives count. They claim the “progressive” position and the moral high ground.

They pretend to care about the welfare of those affected by their vision but in reality they couldn’t give a toss. A prime example is their intent to quickly phase out the thermal coal industry. In a fake attempt to demonstrate balance and empathy for the thousands of families who would find themselves without a job they talk of a “smooth transition” to new industries for coal workers. Yet never once have these people provided any specific plan as to how these workers and their families would be delivered this smooth transition. Nor has there been any detail around exactly which industries would take on these ex-mining workers and how these jobless people would be integrated into these mythical industries.

Self-righteousness is a cunning trait. Those who hold it deeply often come across as sincere, due largely to the fact that their own selfrighteousness is so overwhelming. They believe their own nonsense and it’s this belief which can often make these people seem so sincere. Yet in truth, they’re as fake as a three-dollar bill.

Another example is their oft repeated claim that they support “sustainable” development. Yet, as per a “smooth transition” for coal workers, there’s no detail around specifically what “sustainable” development entails.

We need to look at their track record to gain an understanding of their true position – they oppose all development. In their eyes, nothing is actually “sustainable”. Again, their self-righteousness drives their bias against anything done by anybody else. Typically, none of these people ever actually develop anything themselves. In fact, many don’t even have a job.

They don’t set out to create new industries for miners to “smoothly transition” toward. They don’t build new housing subdivisions that demonstrate their vision of “sustainable development.” In truth, they never roll up their sleeves and put their money where their mouth is. They do nothing other than criticise everybody else’s efforts. Their self-righteousness always casts others in an inferior position, no matter how hard others may try to get it right (and often do get it right.) To these people nothing is ever good enough.

Sadly, these types have long infiltrated the Greens party. They know better than anyone else and no amount of attempt at direct dialogue sway them from their self-determined opinion. Add this to their hard Left political bias and it’s no wonder the LNP and others have long given up on trying to negotiate with them. The biggest loser from all this is the natural environment.

On the one hand Labor do very little to improve their environmental policies because they know the Greens will preference them every time anyway. And on the other hand the LNP have no incentive to improve their policies either because they know the Greens will never give them a fair go due to their heavy political bias.

So, with this all said – it’s a dogmatic, zealotry, selfrighteousness that is at the core of the greenie. They know better than everybody else. They are the superior being. Of course, the reality is very different. As I keep saying, if you vote for the Greens you’ve got rocks in your head.

The Gold Coast greenie believes they are intellectually and morally superior to you and me
