RUNAWAY BAY WATER WOES CONTINUE

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

DISGRUNTLED Runaway Bay residents say they are fed up after being left without water for hours due to a burst water main.

The residents shared a video to a community Facebook page showing large quantities of water spilling across the footpath and on to the road at Poinsettia Ave on Wednesday.

Locals said water was bursting out for two hours and residents in the area were without water for five hours.

“And yet AGAIN (sic), Poinsettia Ave gets to go through another burst water main,” the post said.

A Gold Coast City Council spokesperson confirmed a drinking water outage occurred at Poinsettia Ave from 3pm to 5pm on Wednesday due to the water main break.

“The City removed and replaced a section of the water main, with restoration works of the footpath scheduled for today,” the spokesperson said.

“Three breaks have occurred in nearby areas of the drinking water network during 2021.

“The City is committed to minimising water outages to our customers, and these recent breaks are being factored into the City’s broader water main renewal programs.”
