Brown reaches milestone

- NIC DARVENIZA

VETERAN Surfers Paradise No.8 James Brown will bring up 150 games for his club in a critical match against Bond Pirates that will keep their finals dream on life support or knock them out of contention.

Surfers’ chance at cracking the top four is now only a glimmer, requiring bonus point wins against Bond (28pts), Helensvale (36pts) and Colleges (52pts) in three weeks while hoping PBC and Nerang go winless in that same span to close out the season.

Brown – dubbed ‘grandad’ by teammates who average 21 years of age to his 33 – scored three tries in last week’s 37-7 smackdown of Eagles.

Keeping that form will be vital to saving the season.

“We know how important this game is, it’s do or die and we’re all aware of that,” Brown said. “I’m definitely excited.

“This journey (to 150 games) began as a 20-year-old in 2009 and this is going to be special to finally reach it.”

Brown said there was no reason to stop playing anytime soon.
