PRODUCTION STUDIO’S STARRING ROLE

- KAITLYN SMITH

EMERGING filmmakers and producers can now hone their talents in their home town courtesy of a post-production studio in Burleigh Heads.

Fit with both sound and editing suites, Hype Republic is touted as the ultimate solution for an “end-to-end production” – something the Coast had long been missing, according to cofounders, filmmaker Macario “Kid Mac” De Souza and director Allan Hardy.

The pair were often forced to travel to Brisbane or Sydney to complete their projects. Mr Hardy said their new studio would eliminate the need.

“It’s really our way of creating amazing facilities that can achieve a world-class level (production) while also being accessible and opening the doors and attracting the talent back to the Gold Coast,” Mr Hardy said.

Their services aren’t just limited to filmmaking; television commercials, music videos, and even branded content are often by-products of the studio.

Kid Mac – renowned for his highly acclaimed and first-ever documentary Bra Boys – is also finishing off his latest piece 6 Festivals at the studio house.

Mr De Souza, who recently moved from Sydney to Gold Coast, said: “We’re excited to do all of the postproduction in-house and keep everything on home turf. It’s exciting to be able to structure something that also really works for us now.”
