Challenges raise $240k
SPORTING greats Chris Walker and Joel Parkinson have handed more than $240,000 to charities after completing their own astonishing challenges.
The pair signed up to raise money for selected charities by taking on challenges through the recently released Fund My Challenge App.
Former NRL player Chris Walker walked from Cairns to the Gold Coast for his Walk of a Lifetime. He took 2.5 million steps and covered 1800km to raise more than $200,000 for Rize Up, the Alcohol and Drug Foundation and Beyond Blue.
“I chose these organisations because we’re living in a world that is a lot different to when I grew up, especially over the last 18 months through this pandemic,” he said.
Former world surfing champion Joel Parkinson rode 100 waves in a seven-hour session at Rainbow Bay in June and raised over $40,000 for Youth Insearch.
