VICTIMS HAVING THEIR SAY
MORE than 600 submissions have been made to the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce looking into domestic, family and sexual abuse.
More than 40 per cent of the 400 submissions already analysed are from victim-survivors.
The taskforce, headed by former Justice Margaret McMurdo, is preparing a report for the state government, including options for legislating against coercive control and a new offence of “commit domestic violence”, by October.
“What the submissions have in common, though, is a determination to better educate our community about domestic abuse, to keep victim survivors safe, and to make perpetrators accountable,” Ms McMurdo said.
