NEWTON THEORY: BLUE SKY, PRETTY GIRL, BIG SMILE
TODAY we go back to 1978, a simpler time when the Gold Coast was just beginning to really gain traction as a fun-inthe-sun playground.
Today, this front cover of the Australasian Post would be classified as subliminal marketing, but back then there was a constant demand from magazines for wholesome photos of our local, natural beauties.
The epitome of that demand was Janet Newton, pictured here smiling happily into the camera, with a dolphin, also smiling, at Sea World.
We shot many of these covers and the editors loved the girl-next-door appeal of our beautiful young women.
The format was simple – blue sky, pretty girl, big smile – and it sold an image of the Gold Coast, without a massive advertising budget, that still resonates today.
