ROLLERS PUT HOME FINAL ON LINE

- KYLE WISNIEWSKI

THE Gold Coast are on a roll and former Brisbane Capitals star Jason Cadee is ready to overcome his old team to cement the Rollers a home final.

Gold Coast are coming off five straight wins and currently sit third on the NBL1 table.

Cadee missed the side’s win last Friday night against Red City Roar due to sickness but he was back in full flight on Saturday to beat South West Metro.

The point guard finished with 25 points and 12 assists, continuing an impressive first season with the Rollers after joining his new team a month into the season.

Cadee said this Saturday’s game against his old club Brisbane at Carrara Stadium could set up a home final for Gold Coast.

“They (Brisbane) have a new coach but the personnel are all still the same,” he said.

“That’s where I’ve been trying to give us an advantage by giving our players an insight into their personnel.

“Hopefully there will be a packed Carrara Stadium for our last rostered home game.

“A win could set us up a top three position and earn us a home final.”

The 30-year-old played the last two seasons with Brisbane in the Queensland State League, helping the team to two titles before joining the Gold Coast for 2021 in the rebranded north conference of NBL1.

Cadee has been instrumental in the Rollers success so far in the season, averaging 24 points a game and topping the league in assists with 10.5 a game. On Sunday the Rollers will head to the South Pine Sports Complex to take on the Northside Wizards.

Both the Wizards (8th) and the Capitals (7th) sit middle of the table in the 14-team competition and Cadee said the weekend will be telling if the Rollers are the real deal this season.

“These games should show us where we’re at,” Cadee said.

“I’m not sure if we’re favourites but we should go in expecting we’ll win. “We should always go into a game with that headspace.

“This weekend can really set the season up for us.”

The women’s Rollers will also be taking on Brisbane at home on Saturday before hitting the road on Sunday to take on the Wizards.

They are also coming off a weekend of wins and are currently in sixth position, looking to secure a spot in the finals.

The women kick the proceedings off on Saturday from 5pm before the men tip off from 7pm.

The following day the women start at 1pm and the men at 3pm.
