SIGNS YOU NEED A HORMONE CHECK

- Susie Burrell, from Kidspot

Extreme tiredness and chronic fatigue are common in today’s society, especially for women.

A common scenario is where a woman is not only managing full-time work, but also the demands of the home, extended family and children while simultaneously trying to maintain social connections and down time. It results in many women burning the candle at both ends and leaving their bodies and minds constantly overloaded.

So common is the feeling of fatigue that we run the risk of it becoming normal to feel this exhausted, but there are also some physical signs and symptoms that may suggest hormonal issues.

No amount of sleep is enough

While there are plenty of us who are regularly getting six hours of sleep each night or even less, which indeed may explain why you feel constantly exhausted, if you find yourself falling asleep by 9pm, and then still feeling tired 7-8 hours later, it could be that something else is going on.

You are cranky all the time

Not mum crankiness, rather you have noticed that over time your ongoing fatigue is changing your underlying personality so that you are tired and irritable most of the time. A number of hormones can be disrupted when people are chronically stressed.

You have little motivation

Not motivation to run a marathon or embark on an entire home renovation, rather motivation to the do the things you previously had no issue mustering the energy for. Or in other words, it is becoming increasingly difficult to get through your day.

Your weight will not budge

Deep down we all know if we are eating more than we should be. Or not exercising enough. Or snacking on extras. But in the case in which you are eating a calorie-controlled diet and exercising yet nothing is moving there are several hormonal issues that can impact weight loss.
