GOLD Coast City Council is investigating the spillage of a brown liquid into a local waterway.

A photo (right) of the ocean spill was taken from Marine Parade, Labrador and shared on social media.

It shows brown liquid flowing out of a pipe and into the water.

A council spokeswoman said it was made aware of the matter on Wednesday night and investigations were under way.

“As a precaution, the city recommends avoiding swimming near stormwater drains or in water that looks discoloured, murky or smells unpleasant,” she said.
