Roof reno perfect for Victor

- KAITLYN SMITH

A GOLD Coast man left unable to perform maintenance work to his home following major surgeries in recent years has been gifted a free roof restoration by two tradie brothers.

Long-time Ashmore resident Victor Kalinkin, 62, was forced to watch on as his home slowly deteriorated after multiple hip replacements and a neck surgery hindered his physical abilities.

But when he noticed siblings Sam and Ben Johnston’s generous giveaway – a brand new roof – it seemed almost too good to be true.

The Bulletin reported last month the kind-hearted tradies (above) had teamed up with Dulux to gift one hard done-by Gold Coaster a brand new roof.

“Overall, I’ve had nine hip replacements. In 2019, I had neck surgery and a disc replaced as well as another hip replacement in March 2020,” Mr Kalinkin said.

“I was doing a heap of physio at the time, but four months later the new hip gave way and I had to start from scratch. I wasn’t allowed to drive and I was on crutches for six weeks at a time.”

Mr Kalinkin said Covid had also proved a challenging time emotionally as his two elderly parents suffer dementia and live in an aged-care facility.

Ben Johnston said it took two days to complete the restoration to Mr Kalinkin’s home of 26 years.
