PARIS: “Big John” – a 66-millionyear-old dinosaur and the largest triceratops skeleton unearthed at 8m long – has been sold at auction to an American collector for a whopping €6.6m (just over $10m).

The final price at the Drouot auction house in Paris was well above the expected €1.2m to €1.5m.

Big John’s skeleton is 60 per cent complete and was unearthed in South Dakota in 2014 and put back together by specialists in Italy.

He will now return to the US and the private collection of the unnamed buyer, who was said to have “fallen in love” with Big John after going to Paris to view him.
