Memories of Raudonikis

-

MICK Mair will have memories of the great Tommy Raudonikis flooding back when a horse still carrying his name takes to the track on Saturday.

The Sunshine Coast trainer has recently taken over the training duties of Fisticuffs, who is set to have his first run since July at the Gold Coast on Saturday should the track not be too wet.

For Mair, it is a blast from the past with high-flying businessman John Singleton the majority owner.

“I have known Tommy and Singo for years,” Mair said.

“It goes back to the ’70s and late ’60s so we go back a fair way.”

With Raudonikis dying of cancer in April, Mair said his wife Trish has continued to race Fisticuffs in his honour.

Singleton originally sent Fisticuffs to Queensland to allow Raudonikis to watch him race prior to his death, with the story of the two great mates going way back to the Newtown Jets days.
