HOTTEST HOMES OF 2021

- ALEISHA DAWSON

THE country’s obsession with Gold Coast real estate is red hot with a luxury Palm Springs-inspired property and a resort-style barn residence among the most popular homes of 2021.

Retired tennis superstar Lleyton Hewitt and his wife Bec’s latest purchase – a luxury Burleigh abode – was crowned the Coast’s most popular listing of 2021 on realestate.com.au with 57,792 views.

Known as The Palms, the newbuild’s progress was closely followed on Instagram by home renovators, influencers and buyers who fell in love with its Palm Springs look.

The seller bought it for $3.75m at auction in May and listed it at $4.3m on September 23. It was snapped up by the Hewitt family for $4.305m.

The award-winning, fourbedroom house was a huge hit, with open home inspections attracting hundreds of lookers.

Its popularity the first time prompted selling agents Ed Cherry, of Harcourts Coastal, and Kingfisher Realty’s Conal Martin to limit open homes the second time around.

“It appealed to so many generations with its colour palette, neutral tones and curves,” Mr Cherry said. “It was also very family friendly.”

He said The Palms had set a new benchmark when it came to Gold Coast house trends. “Everyone talks about Hamptons-inspired but now everyone is talking about Palmsinspired homes,” Mr Cherry said.

A resort-style compound at Tallebudgera was the second most viewed property of 2021.

The pool on the acreage estate took out a gold medal at this year’s Qld SPASA Awards of Excellence – little wonder considering the property’s owner is a pool builder.

The 24m heated magnesium pool and spa that wraps around the upper-level alfresco sets the scene for what can be expected throughout the rest of this family home.

Marketing agents John Fischer and Shelley Watkins of PRD marketed it. Rounding out the Coast’s top three most viewed homes of 2021 was an Instagramfamous dream home inspired by a country barn by the sea.

It sold in August for $2.667m – smashing the house price record in the state’s emerging luxury acreage suburb of Kingsholme.

The sprawling, all-white home known as Coastal Barn Dream was marketed by Emil Juresic and Rachael Savic, of NGU Real Estate.

Owner Lauren Eloise has built a social media following of more than 50,000 since documenting the build of the striking 535sq m home.

It was built on a block over five months in 2019 in the Montego Hills estate by Villawood Properties in the semirural growth corridor.

At the other end of the scale, a one-bedroom unit in a caravan park at 672 Nerang Broadbeach Rd, Carrara, which sold for $60,000 received 27,350 views.
