Julia Morris

Comedian, 53

- Fashion editor ANNABEL FALCO

From Chanel cardigans and Herve Leger cocktail dresses through to tracksuits and Hunter wellingtons, Julia’s Morris’ wardrobe is a mixed fashion bag of classic meets comfort. Citing Elizabeth Taylor as a style muse and Dolce & Gabbana as a dream designer, it seems Julia is partial to a “glamour” moment where her Logies dresses take pride of place in her sartorial space … alongside her dreamy sneaker collection of course … because she’s all about the fashion balance.

How would you describe your personal style?

I have a whisper of groove factor with a tailored edge. Who are your style icons? Early Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren and always Vivienne Westwood.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe?

A Chanel cardigan that I bought when I first got paid on Full Frontal. It was a massive splurge but one I am still wearing 35 years later. My very own vintage. What are your favourite brands? Joey the Label, Decjuba, Camilla and when I win the lottery it will be Dolce and Gabbana the whole way.

Have you ever made a style faux pas?

I have lived through many decades … so I have ample examples of living the faux pas dream. The good news is I felt great on the day. When I worked in Club Med, I remember wearing a hat to dinner. Oh dear.

What’s the most you have ever spent on an outfit?

I remember being in New York and buying a Herve Leger dress that made me feel like my life was complete. It was about $2000 at the time … which was all my spending money but I went for it.

What is the most surprising thing in your wardrobe?

The amount of tracksuits I have. I have gathered them like Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds over the past two years.

Top three wardrobe must-haves?

The perfect fitting T-shirt bra. Increasingly a pair of Hunter wellies. A gown mixed in with your day-to-day clothes … just to look at.

What is the most sentimental item in your wardrobe and why?

I still have many of my gowns I wore to the Logies. I look at them all the time. Each gown representing a super fun night in my professional life.

Not to mention they are handmade and just heavenly.

What would you buy if money was no object?

I would build a wardrobe that would be a cross between Cher’s electronically filed wardrobe from Clueless and Carrie’s (Bradshaw) wardrobe in Heaven on 5th.

Summer or winter fashion?

I am a winter girl. I love summer fashion but I hate being b cold.

Denim or dresses?

Dresses all the way. It is a daily battle b for the tracksuit to take a back b seat and treat myself to an outing in a dress. The elastic waist often wins the battle.

Minimalist or sneakers?

I am a mad sneakers fiend. Every outfit I have has a matching pair of sneakers.

Is there anything from your wardrobe you’ve regretted throwing out?

Having moved so many times, I am a great culler. That always means there have been loads of gems go to the next owner. I like the idea of clothes living many lives.

How many pairs of shoes do you own?

I would not even know where to begin counting.
