Take me down to the billabong

You’ll be walking on water, literally, at this eco-friendly estate built over a waterhole and which brings the great outdoors right to your doorstep

A SPRAWLING eco-friendly estate with a billabong and suspended boardwalks is set to go under the hammer.

Summercreek Billabong is built, as the name suggests, around a billabong at

1-5 Summercreek Lane, Nerang.

It was designed, engineered and built by Creative Homes founder Jeff Dray.

A series of boardwalks, piers and walkways suspend over the billabong and connect the main residence to a separate three-bedroom retreat.

The main house features a master bedroom, living and dining room, and a kitchen with entertaining space, while the second residence offers three bedrooms, a main bathroom along with open-plan living spaces.

The sellers, Glenn and Susan Swan, said the billabong attracted a myriad of wildlife and plant species.

“The natural lie of the land delivers the flowing waters from surrounding mountains,” they said.

“From here the billabong has evolved – all overflow from the waterhole meanders through the property (and) enters Crane Creek, which then flows into Nerang River.

“An abundance of wildlife flourish in their natural habitat, including numerous turtles, eastern dwarf tree frog, red claw, water hoppers, dragon flies and small native fish species.

“More than 40 species of birds have been spotted enjoying the billabong and the surrounding gardens, native berries and flowers.”

The house has hardwood floors, exposed beams and timber architraves among its standout features.

There is also an entertaining deck that overlooks the billabong, fire pit, pool and lounging pavilion surrounded by manicured lawns.
