MURDER ACCUSED’S UNDERWEAR DRAMA

- JACOB MILEY REPORTS

AN ex-senior bikie ordered a man to strip to his underwear to check if he was wearing a wire in an interrogation about cocaine and cash, police allege. Police charged him with common assault and deprivation of liberty over the 2021 encounter a day after his arrest in connection to Omega Ruston’s 2009 shooting death.

Ex-senior bikie Brent Simpson ordered a man to strip to his underwear to check if he was wearing a wire during an interrogation about cocaine and cash, police allege.

The former Bandidos sergeant-at-arms is also accused of assaulting the man with a chair during the 2021 ordeal.

Bikie-busting cops from Taskforce Maxima charged Simpson with common assault and deprivation of liberty over the 2021 encounter the day after he was arrested in connection to the 2009 shooting death of Omega Ruston.

Simpson, who is reportedly doing it “tough” in custody, was one of four men arrested last week after a major breakthrough in the 2009 cold case.

He faces charges of being an accessory after the fact to murder, corrupting of a witness and 18 counts of perjury that relate to CCC hearings, according to court documents.

Police have previously said it would be alleged Simpson provided immediate assistance to the offenders after the shooting.

Simpson was not present when his charges of accessory after the fact to murder, corrupt a witness, 18 counts of perjury, common assault and deprivation of liberty were mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Thursday.

In court documents it is alleged Simpson – a truck driver and creator of the popular podcast The Clink – assaulted a man and detained him against his will at a Palm Beach address on an unknown date between April 1 and May 15 last year.

Police will allege Simpson told the man to strip to his underwear to ensure he wasn’t wearing a wire and questioned him about cocaine and money.

When the man denied involvement, Simpson allegedly assaulted him with a chair.

Simpson was expected to make a bail application on Thursday, but his bid for freedom was again adjourned to March 15.

On his usually busy Instagram page, one man posted on a recent video claiming he had spent time with Simpson behind bars: “Just got out off (sic) Roma St watch house. Was in a cell with Simo, he asked me to pass on a message that he sends his love to everyone. He’s having a tough time and is missing his kids and wife, said he loves his family. Good luck bro,” he wrote.

Paul Younan, Haysam Hamdan and Toni Elbayeh were all extradited from Sydney last week in relation to Mr Ruston’s death.

Younan, the alleged shooter, is charged with murder and 27 counts of perjury, while Elbayeh is charged with murder with an alternative of accessory after the fact, corruption of a witness and 30 counts of perjury.

Hamdan, who was arrested at Sydney Airport, is charged with murder with an alternative of accessory to murder. He is expected to make a Supreme Court bail application on Friday.
