• Late 1980s:
The Kornhauser family buys the Greenridge site. The bushland covers the size of a suburb and links to the Pimpama River and Broadwater. The vision is the next Sanctuary Cove.
• Early 1990s: The land is conditionally rezoned under the Albert Shire which would allow for development, but changes occur after merging with Gold Coast City.
• 1996: The terms of reference for the environmental impact assessment is finalised, and new Gold Coast City plan shows the site should be used for “infrastructure”.
• 2003: Planning and rezoning undertaken moving towards developing the area like Coomera Waters suburb.
• 2012/13: Council interested in buying the land but cannot afford it.
• 2018: Developer offers a deal in which it would build about 1200 houses on 80ha of the site and donate the rest for koala country. Talks with the state government, with an offer of $18.5m and a further “paper offer” reached $20m. Finally, a $25m deal was discussed.
• September 2021: Senior Transport bureaucrats said a “mutually acceptable price” could not be agreed on. Council enters negotiations and sources say $8m offered.
• Late 2021: Council makes compulsory acquisition, developer seeks judicial review with ruling expected in March.
