Prem’s pledge on Covid restrictions as nine deaths, 5795 new cases
QUEENSLANDERS and Gold Coasters should know by the end of the month what Covid restrictions will be lifted as NSW and Victoria move to scrap QR check-ins.
Queensland has recorded 5795 new cases and nine more deaths, six in aged care. There are now 384 people in hospital, with 33 in intensive care.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queenslanders would be informed before the end of the month if restrictions could ease, with the state and Gold Coasters still using QR check-ins for hospitality.
Queensland on Thursday recorded its deadliest day of the pandemic, with Health Minister Yvette D’ath announcing 39 deaths related to the virus, but saying some of them were historic cases that had not previously been included in reporting.
Ms Palaszczuk said on Friday 90.4 per cent of eligible Queenslanders had now had two doses of a Covid-19 vaccine.
Queensland’s chief health officer John Gerrard said of the nine deaths reported, three were not vaccinated and three had a booster.
Six were in their 70s, two in their 80s and one person in their 90s.
Dr Gerrard said there had been no increase “at all” of hospitalisations in children since schools reopened.
He said the state would reach the end of the Omicron wave at the end of the month, but said what happened afterwards was unknown.
“We’re heading towards the end of our wave,” he said.
Dr Gerrard said things had gone “significantly better” than expected.
