LAURA NAILED IT AND, OH, JOE MADE A GOOD FIST OF IT TOO

-

TODAY we go back to 2015 and “Aussie” Joe Bugner pictured here with Laura Lydall, who was at that time of Ultra Tune TV ad model fame.

They both shared Max Markson as an agent and Laura had professed a desire to do boxing as part of her fitness regimen, so Max rang Joe.

There was a bit of consternation at the beginning because Laura didn’t want to break any of her finger nails, which caused a teeny eye-roll from Joe, but ever the good sport he gloved her up and away they went.

Joe had a truly remarkable career, fighting Muhammad Ali twice over 15 rounds as well as other famous fighters such as Joe Frazier, Ernie Shavers and Henry Cooper.

His career consisted of 83 fights from 1967 to 1999 and he is the oldest boxer to ever win a world title under the WBF banner at the grand old age of 48.

The Ultra Tune ads created enormous controversy but Laura answered the critics thus. “Surely as independent, strong women, we are allowed to choose without fear of prejudice or hurtful judgments about what we wear, how we look and the form of work we choose?”
