Covid deaths in aged care

-

SEVEN people died from Covid and 5440 new cases were recorded across Queensland on Friday.

More than 3100 of the cases were from rapid antigen tests, Health Minister Yvette D’ath said.

Chief health officer Dr John Gerrard said six of the seven deaths were recorded in aged care.

Dr Gerrard said one person was in their 60s, three in their 80s and three in their 90s.

Dr Gerrard said three were not vaccinated, three had received two doses and “only one had received the booster”.

It comes exactly one month after Queensland recorded its peak in Covid hospitalisations.

“On January 25, Queensland had 928 people with Covid-19 in hospital including 51 in intensive care, today there are just 333 in our public hospitals, 27 in intensive care.”

Dr Gerrard said the reduction in hospital admission was a reminder of “just how much can change in a month. In private hospitals there are 17 patients with Covid”.

Southern states on Friday dropped their mask mandates.
