BETTER CCTV TECHNOLOGY ROLLING OUT

-

NEW and improved measures have been rolled out across the Gold Coast to help boost the city’s surveillance.

Gold Coast City Council announced on Friday a $75,000 software upgrade had been undertaken on the city’s roughly 700 CCTV cameras.

“This is about value for money as the new technology allows us to achieve faster search times and deliver clearer footage,’’ Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said.

Council said its $20,000 antihoon trailer had generated good results, having captured more than 250,000 number plates and assisted police in targeting hooning during a six-month trial that ends next month. A six-month community camera alliance program trial will also take place in Varsity Lakes and a Yatala industrial precinct.

“I know the hardworking police benefit greatly by being able to access vision,” Mr Tate said.
